everyone is welcome in club! where film photographers unite in our shared love of spending too much money on film, being influenced by the internet to buy yet another camera we don’t need, and obsessing over that film grain which can never be replicated with digital. we don’t hate digital though. we just prefer to drown in ambiguity of whether we got the shot or not and accept the 13.33% risk of our rolls coming out totally blank.
- we know there’s a good chance that camera we bought on auction for $5 on ebay might not work even though it says “tested”
- our fridges are not full of food
- our bathrooms might smell a bit like chemicals and there could at any point be strips of acetate hanging off the towel racks
- the only use our digital cameras get is to scan our film negatives
- we know our weekends are shot because we have an epson v600
- our families have questioned our sanity when they see us putting our film rolls in a jar with boiling water, lemon juice, vitmain c, flowers, and salt
- we think letting flowers sit on paper painted with special liquid out in the sun for hours or duck-taping a can poked with a needle to a pole for a day to catch the sun trails is the coolest.
- but also we might have none of that by sending all our film to the lab and have them throw away our negatives. just the scans please and thank you.
however you want to film, it’s done in club. and we don’t judge.
we don’t gatekeep either. if you ask, we’ll more than happily overshare. but also, nobody asked? then don’t tell. no mainsplainers tolerated.
